30th Annual Congress for Enterprise Asset Management with SAP 2026

When standard solutions aren’t enough:
Design digital inspections to be flexible and scalable

Anniversaries naturally invite reflection. They are a time to celebrate milestones, take stock of challenges overcome, and at the same time make plans for the future. 30 years of SAP EAM also means 30 years of impulses, ideas, and visions for Enterprise Asset Management.

Today, Enterprise Asset Management in many companies continues to face complex challenges: ensuring asset availability, managing the disruption of existing processes through new technologies, and responding to societal changes such as the shortage of skilled workers, which calls for smarter resource management.

Now is the time to consolidate expertise and secure high-performing structures for the long term. How this can be achieved will be demonstrated at the 30th SAP EAM Conference, taking place from June 18–19 in Berlin.

Speaker

Many asset-intensive organisations face the challenge of replacing legacy systems with modern field service platforms—without compromising complex processes, offline capabilities, or extensive documentation requirements.

TÜV Rheinland, one of the world’s leading providers of technical testing and inspection services, conducts over 400,000 inspections of industrial assets and infrastructure each year. To replace an application that had evolved over more than 20 years, a new field service architecture was implemented based on SAP Field Service Management (FSM) and SAP S/4HANA.

This presentation provides insights into the architecture, implementation approach, and lessons learned from introducing a globally scalable platform for planning, dispatching, and mobile inspections. In particular, it demonstrates how SAP FSM Planning & Dispatching is used to efficiently manage inspection processes while laying the foundation for further innovation on the platform.

As part of a co-innovation initiative between TÜV Rheinland, SAP, and proaxia, several enhancements were developed, enabling:

  • reliable offline execution of inspections in the field

  • flexible digital inspection forms with validation logic

  • efficient handling of large documents and asset histories

  • seamless integration into existing SAP backend processes

In addition, the session shows how intuitive, fully offline-capable extensions can be used to enhance SAP FSM mobile functionality in a targeted way, while ensuring a secure and scalable enterprise architecture.

The implemented platform also provides the foundation for unlocking further value on the SAP FSM platform—for example through AI-supported dispatching, optimisation, and new data-driven service use cases.

Participants will gain practical insights into:

  • architectural decisions when implementing SAP FSM

  • the use of FSM Planning & Dispatching for inspection processes

  • typical limitations of standard mobile applications in inspection scenarios

  • best practices for extensions within the SAP ecosystem

  • experiences from a co-innovation initiative between customer, SAP, and implementation partner
